This week in celebration of Mother's Day, the BAC is honoring amazing moms from our community. Today, meet Kim, an avid volunteer who also recently started a special education law practice!
Tell us a little bit about yourself! (We know being a mom is just one of your many roles! Any jobs, hobbies, interests, etc. that you would like to share?)
I’m excited to announce that I just started a special education law practice. I love helping people, and hope to make a difference in the lives of children and their families (massieplawyer.com). For the past several years, I have also served as a volunteer as follows:
- Girl Scout leader for my daughter’s troop - Host committee member for the Doug the Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism
- Teacher time saver at my kids’ school (laminating, and other time consuming tasks so teachers may focus on the kids)
- Federation for Children with Special Needs call center volunteer and pro-bono advocate
- Special Education Surrogate Parent for children in DCF custody needing a neutral third party to make educational decisions
My hobbies/interests include practicing yoga, and spending time on outdoor adventures with my family and dogs.
What is your favorite "mom moment?"
I’m not sue I can narrow it down to one, but nothing compares to sleepy cuddles and witnessing new milestones.
What's the best thing about being a mom?
I finally understand what my mom went through with my brother and me, and I am so grateful to have the opportunity to pass on the amazing values which she instilled in me.
What is your biggest wish for your children?
That they grow up to be kind, thoughtful, independent, and self-sufficient. Additionally, I hope they will always remain true to themselves and strive to reach their potential.
