Week 2: BAC Summer Camp (Theme: Learning About Our Senses!)

This past week we had so much fun learning about our senses. Through multisensory activities we learned about our sense of touch, see, taste, hear and smell. Not only did we learn more about our bodies but we made new friends too! We hope you enjoy reading about the exciting time we had at camp and look forward to next year’s annual BAC Summer Camp!

Age of the Dinosaurs- Rarr!

Friday was Age of the Dinosaurs theme at BAC Summer Camp. Children signed in on a prehistoric background and colored dinosaur eggs. We painted paper mache dinosaur eggs. The children took them home to break open and… inside each one had a special surprise… A toy dino!! We played the game Jungle Dive and read the book “How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?” For snack we ate fossil cookies stamped with dinosaur footprints! After snack we hatched fizzy dinosaur eggs.  It was really cool to watch them fizz and hatch!

Under the Sea Adventures

Thursday was Under the Sea at BAC Summer Camp. We had a great day filled with ocean animals, water and friends! Children signed in on an ocean background and made a the legs for an octopus by working together to connect purple paper chains. We had lots of smiles playing in our “ocean blob” that we covered in shaving cream to make it extra sippery and messy fun! We worked together to collect ocean puzzle pieces during an obstacle course in the large motor room. Children enjoyed reading “Way Down in the Deep Blue Sea” and found ocean animals in our sensory bead bin. For snack we had an EDIBLE FISHBOWL! It consisted of rice cakes, blue pudding and goldfish- it was very yummy! Lastly we made ocean squish bags to take home and retell parts of our day with our families… Oh and we almost forgot! We sang the song “Baby Shark!” which is a fan favorite. If you don’t know the song, you can listen to it below.

It’s Pirate Day at BAC Summer Camp

Wednesday was Pirate Day! We signed in on pirate ships with an ocean background and decorated paper pirate hats. We read the book “Do Pirates Take Baths” and played the board game Pop Up Pirate with friends. For our whole language activity, we made gold pirate slime that we filled with gems! It was really fun to make and watch it sparkle in the light. Our group game was working together to collect treasure- sparkly, gold pirate coins!- in an obstacle course. We had to be extra careful when we “walked over the plank” (aka: balance beam over blue tarp with shark fins- yikes!). For snack, we were extra hungry from all the fun activities. We ate apple and cheese shaped pirate ships with pirate booty popcorn- aye aye captain! We ended another successful day of camp with a group game of cannon ball water balloon toss (aka: black water balloon). We also got to launch our rockets that we made from camp yesterday… And let us tell you… They go up SUPER HIGH!

BAC Summer Camp is Officially Up and Running!

BAC Summer Camp is off to a great start! Day 1 and 2 consisted of nothing short of lots of laughs, smiles, learning and making friends.

Day 1: Camping

We had a scavenger hunt finding all kinds of bugs! (Don’t worry we found pretend bugs!!!)

We made a campfire for craft and had a nature scavenger hunt outside. We read the book “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt” and looked through discovery bottles. The children took turns shaking them to find the different things that they went through in the story.

We were so hungry at snack time from all of our activities! We worked together and made dirt worm cups. They were not only yummy, but so much fun to make!

We ended our day with group scooter board races to build a campfire! Check out our BAC Facebook page to see a picture of this activity!

Day Two: Outer Space

We made planets! Older kids used shaving cream and marbled planets. They then painted black paper with gold glitter paint to glue the planet(s) onto.  The younger kids marbled planets by squishing paint in a bag.

We read the book “There’s No Place Like Space” with a constellation flashlight. Afterwards we made EDIBLE rocket ships! Have you ever heard of something so delicious and cool to make?

We also played a group game of astronaut challenge/space prep. Kids earned large NASA stickers and badges to wear! We were so proud of all of the challenges we completed! The kids are ready for their trip to space!
